US officials accuse Europe of prolonging Russia's war in Ukraine

Senior White House officials have allegedly accused some European leaders of prolonging Russia's war in Ukraine, Axios reported in an exclusive scoop on Aug. 30. According to Axios, U.S. officials have grown increasingly impatient with European leaders, whom they allege are pushing Ukraine to hold out for a "better deal."

"The Europeans don't get to prolong this war and backdoor unreasonable expectations, while also expecting America to bear the cost," a senior White House official told Axios.

"If Europe wants to escalate this war, that will be up to them. But they will be hopelessly snatching defeat from the jaws of victory."

Explosions were reported in Rivne. Many drones are flying to the western regions
Is this the first time that we’ve heard about Russia attacking in the west part of Ukraine?

Russia frequently targets Ukrainian towns along the Polish and Romanian borders sometimes less than 100 miles from NATO territory.

It’s gotten to the point where, almost every other week, we hear about a stray drone crashing inside either Poland or Romania.

Thankfully, these drones entering NATO airspace haven’t caused any significant damage or NATO civilian deaths and can be easily played off as mistakes to prevent escalation.

The context is the upcoming RU/BY Zapad-2025 exercise, which is scheduled to begin in less than two weeks' time.

There's been a lot of chatter and uncertainty about this exercise for months - given that similar exercises preceded the Russian invasion of Ukraine. While it seems unlikely that the upcoming event is a prelude to e.g. invasion of the Baltic states, the fear of potential provocations persists in the region.

Yeah I can’t tell if he referring to that or they’re planning to send more migrants across the border like in the past.

I mean if it was an active battlefield then yeah, but if the war is over and they try that they’re gonna find out why I don’t have free healthcare

The Russians will never agree to end the war though because they know that it would mean NATO troops in Ukraine.

For the second time in recent weeks, a Russian UAV has crashed in Poland, this time a Gerber decoy drone that can be identified by its appearance.

I trust this a lot more than I trust the Polish MoD.

Doesn't nessecarily have to be a deliberate testing tactic either. Timing is very interesting, but if Russia wants to oversaturate Ukraine's airspace as much as possible, more drones are bound to escape the more drones they lob at Ukraine, and the heightened security around Poland's border makes them want to shoot them down instead of not noticing until it might be too late and it causes damage.
