Drones spotted near military areas​

There are several military areas near the Danish airports, where drones have been spotted last night.

  • Near Aalborg Airport is located Airfield Aalborg, which is home to transport aircraft of the types C-130 Hercules and CL-604 Challenger. Here, too, the Hunter Corps holds.
  • Flight Station Skrydstrup, where drones have also been spotted, is a military area where the Danish F-16 aircraft maintenance is carried out.
 

Meeting tomorrow​

Tomorrow, a meeting has been convened to discuss the construction of a stronger drone preparedness in Denmark, says Troels Lund Poulsen.

- It is important to emphasize that this is a arms race on time, because technology is constantly evolving. We will never ever be full of goals, but must continuously adapt to the security policy situation, he says.

National Police Chief Thorkild Fogde explains that cooperation with the energy and transport sectors is increased, "which also has important shares in the Danish infrastructure."

Actors can be interested in undermining support for Ukraine, says Troels Lund Poulsen​

TV 2 asks if they see a link between the message that Denmark will acquire missiller that can hit targets in Russia and these incidents.

- I have no evidence to say that at all. But in the situation we are currently facing, there are countries or actors who can have an interest in undermining support for Ukraine. Of course, it is important that we are also open about it. What is crucial is that we do not let ourselves be intimidated by Russia, says Troels Lund Poulsen.

He adds that we do not yet know who operates the drones we have seen in Denmark.
 

How can this happen again?​

Our entire air defense is almost parked in Skrydstrup? How can you let drones pass over that area without shooting them down?

- We were ready for that, but decided not to do so. For the sake of an overall assessment in the situation for reasons of wood safety. When you shoot something up in the air, something comes down again too. So for the sake of security for those around, says Chief of Defense Michael Hyldgaard.

How can this happen again?

- You have made an assessment of whether to neutralize those drones, and that is a professional assessment you have made. It is not that we are unable to fight drones, but we need to get better for detection, Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen answers.
 

Denmark will get help from Ukraine​

Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen explains that the theme of the meeting tomorrow is a drone wall that will form a shield against the eastern part of Europe to address major drone swarms.

- What we are experiencing now is drones that are potentially released in our immediate area. I cannot describe where they have come from, but not over a long distance. It takes place here locally, he says, adding:

- I understand the concern for the Danish people, but today we cannot present a solution that removes the threat compared to drones.

Denmark will invest in the technology that "must be needed" just as we get help from Ukraine, says the Minister of Defense.

Denmark is considering activating NATO's Article 4​

Troels Lund Poulsen says they are considering activating NATO's Article 4, but have not made a final decision. In that case, it will be the first time in Danish history.

Denmark has reached NATO on Thursday morning, he says.

Late Wednesday night and night until Thursday, drones have disturbed the airspace over Aalborg Airport and the airports in Esbjerg, Sønderborg and Skrydstrup. Also, Billund Airport was briefly shut down due to drone activity notification.

The Minister of Defense says we are in a situation where Danish defense "for decades has not had the right capabilities".
