This gives me some smidgen of hope that perhaps this will be resolved without the use of nuclear weapons. But only a smidgen. Ukraine is not going to let go of Donetsk.

I posted the source. And if the back-door communications between the US and Russia have given Putin a way out, similar to 1962 when we secretly agreed to pull our Jupiter missiles out of Turkey if the USSR pulled their ICBMs out of Cuba, then this would explain the change of tone.Where is the source for this? This makes absolutely no sense as to why Russia would suddenly show such weakness.
