Here, Trump makes the assertion that the US "was not required to give anything in return".

His own next post contradicts this:

So, given that:

a) Sanctioned signed into law by both POTUS & both chambers of the House were to go into effect, and
b) The decision to not impose these sanctions lead to this swap

We can directly conclude that Russia traded this person in exchange for sanctions relief. Which contradicts the assertion that "the United States was not required to give anything in return".

The lesson to be learned from this is that if the US imposes sanctions on you, you should detain as many US nationals as possible on bogus charges, then gradually release them in exchange for sanctions relief or other concessions. Rinse and repeat.

Dude, you got it bad. Taking American hostages is THE LAST thing you want to do with the current administration! :ROFLMAO:

WASHINGTON -- Poland is offering to pay $15,000 a year for every US soldier stationed on its territory and cover infrastructure costs as Warsaw and Washington move closer to agreeing on establishing a permanent American military base, a senior Polish defense official told RFE/RL.

Deputy Defense Minister Pawel Zalewski said in an interview in Washington on September 25 that negotiations with the Pentagon are now focused on how to implement the plan, including the forces, capabilities, and possible locations involved.

“We are discussing with the Pentagon different variations of the execution of the decision,” Zalewski said.
