Ukraine Striking Targets Inside Russia With US Weapons

Is it always confirmed to be HIMARS? Because I did see a tweet a while back saying that people are grossly over exaggerating the amount of HIMARS strikes that have occured

Fair question and I don’t know if a decent way with OS to validate it

Depends. Not always. The title of this thread is actually somewhat unfortunate; Ukraine has not been striking "countless targets inside Russia" with US weapons. Attacks against Russia proper are infrequent and mainly carried out using Soviet or Ukrainian weapons. Even Russia admits that.

As regards Ukrainian territory - the situation is more complex. HIMARS has become something of a bogeyman in the Russian media sphere, and whenever something blows up everyone immediately jumps to conclusions and screams bloody murder at the Americans. That said, there has been a major uptick in UA attacks on command centers and ammo dumps in occupied territories, and the range and accuracy of such attacks suggest that many, if not most of them, have indeed been HIMARS strikes.

Putin isn’t going to take this for much longer. Some folks are seriously prepping for his retaliation, when he starts lobbing rounds at those who are supplying Ukraine with arms and training.

Might be a reason why NYC is starting duck and cover drills?

Why is the tendency to always assume there will be some magical line crossed short of nato entering the war completely that would provoke Putin to engage nato forces or strike a nato base.

Assuming he would respond in a substantial and reoccurring strikes against nato. This would be a substantially foolish move on his part.

Remember his goal is to continue the war intill he has secured however much of Ukraine he wants. NATO entering the war now would not be good for anyone but it would be least good for Russia.

Right now it’s a hard slow fight costing him men and resources. This is with nato just suppling weapons and intel.
If he responds in a way that gives nato an excuse to begin flying air missions over eastern Ukraine. It would be very counter productive to his goals. It just makes it all the harder to achieve his aims.

My point is of either party it is Russia who has a greater motivation to keep NATO forces out of the fight.

It is true there is always the desperation argument and that he will lash out in desperation or frustration. I don’t believe it carries as much weight as achieve his goals and surviving. Surviving being his preeminent goal.

Yeah, but then again, it was Hitler who declared war on the United States (not the other way around!) while already fighting a war with the Soviet Union.

Inbred thinking in small echo chambers tends to produce such outcomes.

That true stupidity must always be factored in for anyone. I suppose for me his desire to survive will trump his stupidity gene. 😏

It is my understanding that one of the conditions for the transfer of US long range weapons is that they are not used to strike targets within Russian borders.

Apparently they forgot the memo.
They have been hitting Russian held territory but not, I believe, the motherland.

Again, my understanding was that it was a fairly strict condition given the possibility of escalation. I suspect that a fairly close watch is kept on these things.

Though sources on this are crazy inaccurate right now. For some reason Russia is pushing heavy propaganda about the matter and hard to tell what is true or not. So time will tell. Give it a week and we will likely know a lot more.
In honesty I would go with that argument. I accept that it is by no means impossible that they have done so but I, honestly, doubt it at this point. They have other weapons systems that are capable, although not as accurate.

Yawn so what Russia invaded another country, what they thought because they were Russia Ukraine would abstain from hitting logistical targets inside Russian boarders?
FFS is Russia so special do they get a pass because they were once great.
I’m tired of hearing this, they started a war that is resulting in the deaths of 10of thousands. If everyone would stop coddling them and defending them international pressure might end this war without a cataclysm

I would suggest that it is more important that we support Ukraine to the extent that NATO does not get directly involved. If that means placing limitation on the types of weaponry provided and how it used then so be it.

Certainly Russia is responsible. But the problem is that the propaganda is as much Russian as Western, not to say American. If NATO had not broken its promises, nor thrown oil on the fire, we would not be here... on the brink of the abyss. Pushing a madman with a nuclear weapon into a corner is not a good thing. You are all seeing this from a distance because you are not at the borders or on the front lines as Europe. It is not the first time that a country invades a part of another or claims it dixit Israel, Palestine Korea China and so on. So why Ukraine country which is corrupted at 80% (which is even selling weapons at this very moment on the black market) would be entitled to a better defense than the others at the risk of triggering the 3rd? This world has gone completely crazy. It thinks that all the governments work for the good of the people but their only interest is the one of the economy and the financial markets...there is nothing else in their eyes but power, finance and sex (the last one is not so bad :D). So if tomorrow everything is going to explode, hearing the crybabies say that it's Russia's fault will be a stupidity as big as the universe. The societies don't seem to understand what is really going on in our imperfect and unfair world.
