Almost all state public infrastructure projects or repairs is split around 70% federal funding and 30% state funding. Without the federal government funds states would be crippled and unable to build new infrastructure or repair current infrastructure.

Also where only talking infrastructure. A lot of other vital things every state depends on to survive comes from federal government or federal aid/funding.

You know the major bride or highway you use to go to work? Or maybe one of the major ports on the East or West Coast that brings you whatever shit you ordered online from overseas? Yea guaranteed up to 70% of that infrastructure was funded by federal government. States or local municipalities only have to put up 30% of the costs. Because states just don't have the money individually to do it alone.

There is no going back either as every state is 100% dependent on one another, every state is highly interconnected with one another, and modern faster than ever traveling times means state borders are highly blurred. One can hop state to state in hours. Or work in one state and live in another.

Not sure it is completely out of date. The needs of New Jersey are different from the needs of Nevada.

Constitutionally, we are setup as a federation of quasi-sovereign states. If a unified national-style government is desired or required, the Constitution must be changed.
