Border is to big to secure entirely.
More instability in South America (in general) simply means more migration and refugees crossing the border into America no matter what the heck you do, spend, build, or threaten.
So. We either make sure South America is MILDLY stable enough or keep dealing with the same old issues with a flood at the border, again & again, no matter how much money or troops you throw at the border to keep them out.
Fuck party politics. This is cause and effect. Full stop. Not sorry this doesn't fit anyone's political narrative.
And I mean anyone's narrative
as the left US administrations have done no better to keep stability in South America, just as much as the right US administrations.

(100% sad ass fact)... both political factions in US just flat up ignore South America and it's instability.
It is the root cause of migrant/refugee issues.
DN I respect your opinion but what your proposing is we stabilize all of Latin america because that is easier than controlling the boarder?
Yes I agree we need to do things to stabilize Latin america, that’s a given I won’t argue that. But just as controlling the boarder alone is not sufficient. Neither is pumping endless money into South American regimes alone sufficient to stemming this tide.
An important part of this is influencing and improving the condition of Latin Americans is fighting the narcostate nations like Venezuela, Columbia and Mexico.
It’s also having an honest conversation about our immigration laws. Change the quotas system and process that reflects an economic viability for immigrants coming here on work visa. As well as job availability for American citizens.
Create a culture that respects this process. Rather than one that makes criminals out of so many from the start.
There has not been a comprehensive immigration reform changes to immigration and work visa since 1990.
We can’t control our boarders? Comparing May and July of 2025 vs same months 2023 there was a 90% decrease in boarder crossing and detentions.
That not a number to spit at, so the boarder can actually be controlled in a significant manner. So it is possible after all.
So I refuse to accept the notion that we can’t control our boarder. It’s not some intractable physics problem that no one has been able to solve for.
Just as I refuse to accept the notion we can’t fix this and we just have to keep offering up blanket amnesties.
What we have now isn’t good for poorest that are already here. Just as it’s not good for those making the journey.
Want to do the human and moral thing demand the system top to bottom be fixed. How many have died or been brutalized because we “can’t” control our boarder.
We can’t control our boarder, so irregardless of the suffering this causes to those who make the journey, we do nothing?
I’ve watched this cycle of mass illegal immigration followed with uproar then some form of blanket amnesty. And everyone says we can’t fix it.
Except for trying the very things that would likely fix it.
