Question.....could you rely on a 100% allied response/involvement?

I believe the bases surrounding china are there by treaty or legislation by both countries. I don't believe the US would need allot of allied involvement as far as active involvement. Just access to bases already there as well as overflight allowance. Now if china starts hitting bases that house them, which they will, it could go either way I suppose. They could tell us to get out but I believe they will most likely join us in the fight.

IMO The PI’s are ify. Japan and the ROK are as close to 100% as you can get.
Thailand…<throws chicken bones> who knows, probably allow tankers and cargo.
Surprisingly Vietnam looks pretty solid. Just my 2¢

We have China pretty much surrounded with military troops and hardware. Here is a graph that illustrates it. If they start a war they're going to take allot of damage to their infrastructure!
Don't be so sure. If China invades Taiwan, I'll be the US won't attack mainland China. Reciprocity. The expectation will be that if mainland China isn't attacked, the US mainland won't be attacked, either.

How long time will go with condemnation and speeches?? and you think taiwan will shoot first? Looking at Taiwans energy consumption, the island will have to ration right away and stop most manufacturering capacities.
No idea how long too many variables

Eventually we would have to hit their ports and airfields to win. They may feel the same way about San Diego and Norfolk.

CCP are strictly business, I have to believe that they have a full and well thought out asymmetric set of plans and contingencies to deal with ROC. You can bet your bottom dollar China understands the calculus much much better than Russia did pre invasion. I do think you're right, I think the invasion posturing is a bluff, but they have a route to control Taiwan and I don't imagine it will dissapoint. For the last 30 years china has been doing things right more often than not.
Understanding numbers is different than using that understanding towards a different goal.
Chinas immense population some like to laud as a great strategic positive. Has a very serious internal danger.
There numbers tell them they have to keep their 7 billion people employed and not hungry. If they don’t it almost immediately becomes an existential problem.
There are asymmetric threats and weaknesses that China is just as much at risk from as the US, Russia or Europe.

Keeping the whole machine running is even more critical to China than the others.

A good way to avoid all of this is if we took a hard stance and finaly say what we mean. Draw the line. China will not attack/blockade if it knows for certain it would lead to conflict with the US.

It's the US ambiguity that will lead to a war no one really wants. We need to be clearer.
Duh

True enough, the US and the 5 eyes would be enough to beat China military. ( Although if China invokes its defence pacts might have Iran, Russia, NK on their side might be more even ) But there is a image at stake, and from what I read here and other places the US population would rather want a broad coalition then stand alone ( might even feel backstabbed when others dont come help ) And the US ( without a plan ) and a drawn out conflict will end in disaster.

True the same tactic was used in the colonial times. ( well taking their ports ) You would need India and Indonasia ( manpower ) to actually invade China mainland.

You don't think it will escalate when we start sinking each other's capital ships? You don't think the US would start taking out the chinese coastal missile batteries when they are being fired at our Navy and Marines? I believe it will escalate quickly once the shooting starts if we intervene to stop them. I guess there is always the possibility the US won't and just let them take Taiwan.

we could invade thru Afghanistan. I understand we left a lot of preposition equipment there….

I know you're kidding, but the logistics of invading China through the Wakhan Corridor would be like trying to get Taft out of the tub while he's covered in oil. A Taliban invasion of China would be outright comical though!

Actually, I don't think it would take very long to slap the Taliban out of the way and reoccupy our bases there if we really wanted to.
