Canada is the camels nose under the tent.
On the other hand as I read this

I thought we only had to hit them in the head to get the idea across: “We are through carrying the water”.
NATO and the EU* will no longer be a “loss leader”. America is leaving Europe. It may be slow but it is happening*
‘There Is No Going Back’: The Inside Story of Europe’s Rupture With America
* its not happening at all in the UK and very very slowly in Eastern Europe.
In the end I believe NATO will continue, just not supported disproportionally by the USA.
Let’s not confuse American desire or actions to reduce our military footprint in Europe and NATO as a diplomatic and break of alliances.
SERIOUSLY in alliances fidelity to the alliance is not solely measured by one’s perpetually forward deployed.
Every one keeps screaming the US is abandoning or won’t defend Europe.
But no will address the question. Is the physical presence of US military forward deployed in mass a realistic necessity. Similar to or in greater numbers than the past.
We’ve all watched for four years Russias abilities to project power. Yes they can cause a great deal of damage against a weaker nation. However they have been unsuccessful in advancing their gains beyond the speed of moss on a rock. All while suffering casualties in excess of 1,000,000 young men.
Everyone is working from the presupposition that it is imperative the US continues to employ a strong forward deployed troop and armor presence in eastern Europe.
Answer that first. Is it required, if it why is it still this way?
Again this goes back to the secondary question. Is Europe that weak? If so why?
The tertiary question then would be why is Europe supposedly this weak.
Is it too weak economically to field an army commensurate to perceived needs?
Are their manufacturing capabilities such that they are unable to equip out such an army?
Or is it just a general unwillingness, to field an army sufficient to confront perceived threats.
