I think Ukraine needs to answer for this
I don't think they should. They are indeed the victims. They are simply defending themselves. They can't hope to win fair or "nicely" against a overwhelmingly giant foe WHO ALSO does not play fair or "nicely".

Ukraine leveling the playing field defending against a enemy with zero mercy or moral regard & resorting to the savagenes that their enemy is doing onto them just shouldn't be punished for.

The world isn't "black & white" sorry. The word isn't as clear cut or simple as many may view it or want it. War is ugly and the defender must do whatever it takes to keep their sovereignty. Even if it means lowering yourself to your enemies savage tactics.

Using civilian shields is not excusable in any circumstance. I dont care if you are on the defensive.
They had a chance to evacuate those civilians for days they didnt. They placed mines around it. They blocked roads. They forced the civilians to stay and be human shields.
Stoop to your enemies level? By killing your own people? Thats what they did. That is why human shields are illegal.

I am not for war crimes or not for this either. But there is a difference between being "for" something and letting something "pass/slide" due to circumstances or outside variables. Ukraine deserves a pass imo as they have all the circumstances in the world.

Every single person that has been killed by the military conflict in the Ukraine is dead becuase of one thing: Russians
Yes they wouldn't have to resort to desperate measures if the Russians didn't wrongly invade their nation for no real purpose other then control and to erase the very existence of any Ukrainian identity.

I'm not even sure if the full truth is any of the reports. Also the UN has become a fairly unrespectable and untrustworthy organization. Not putting faith in their reporting being "bias". Another thing Russia and also China ruined,... the UN.

This isn't like Russia is vetoing the UN. Russia cant force the UN to lie.And the UN has called them out because of that.

On one side-yes every causality is caused by the Russians for invading - BUT that doesn't mean that Ukraine didn't directly and intentionally put civilians in harms way. And they should not do it again. How do we prevent that? Well, being that they ARE the victims and dont want to look like they arent, maybe calling them out once might get them to, I dont know, not use civilian shields.

A pass is one thing. We dont have to take action to get the message across. But I personally cannot support civilian shields. Its just another way of saying killing civilians.
If someone shoots at you and you have your brother forced in front of you, the shooter killed your brother. That doesn't mean you didn't put him directly in that situation.

That's my concern, NATO allies have been funneling weapons into Ukraine, which is all well and good. But they've only given what already exists.

In the UK at least, we now have virtually nothing in reserves and there's no effort yet to replace it, makes me wonder how long it can be kept up.

I have began to think that this almost stupid sending of weapons toward Ukraine, on the contrary compared to what Russians say about it, it's actually for them an unexpected positive result. That Europe is almost unarmed from many years, it wasn't for sure a secret. In this way, we are even more unarmed, for what? Some kind of weapons need a great logistic chain for supplying and repairs, as well as months of training. Well trained troops in Ukraine has been largely annihilated by now, in fact Ukraine is sending to the battlefront the territorial defence, as to say people with a very basic training. What have to to do these people with a PzH2000? And what change could make some PzH2000?

The problem is that Ukraine has limited resources itself. The West could flood Ukraine with weapons, but Ukraine has only so many hands to hold them.

Sure, Ukraine may also be facing the too-little-too-late scenario when it comes to weapons. idk. They could still rally with enough good weapons and push back the invasion.

Actually, the problem is not the number of the hands, but the number of the weapons that we can deploy in Ukraine and the number of the hands that could be able to use them and repair them. And this is not a solvable problem: we have thought that it could be enough, just on the base of the idea that Russia would have withdraw in a few time. And finally, our great strategic plan, is still the same of the first day of war: that Russia is going to implode. But someone is starting to realize that the things are going in a different way.

Not say that Ukraine was shelling the Donbass since 2014. But to say that maybe is too "pro Kremlin".

Damn! You truly hate so much these Russians! So, Ukraine can do all, even the worst things, and they are legitimated. So the Pravy Sector and Azov dudes, was right. Ok.

It also doesn’t mean that you shot and killed your brother. The only person responsible is the bastard that shot your brother and probably killed you father, gang raped your mother, sisters and even you surviving little brother.

Personally I accept ZERO blame shift in the Ukraine. One day everyone was alive and the next day many were dying because the Russians decided to wipe out an entire culture and people.

The UN reporting on the deaths from urban shelling showed that both side were equally responsible for civilian deaths in this urban conflict. Which I believe you are acknowledging

Of course there have been bad things done by Ukrainian forces. This notion that all wars can be fought with Queensberry rules that one or both sides will adhere to is foolishness.
If we were seeing this war play out a millennia ago it’s measure of success would have been how many captives were taken and placed into slavery.

So short of some really serious incidents I don’t really care. I think Bucha might have been one of those and no doubt executions took place in and around Meriupol of Russia sympathizers. It has not changed my opinion of who is the aggrieved party here.

The over all question of who is ultimately responsible rest with who initiated the war and the hostilities in the breakaway regions prior.
The overriding consensus is Russia, therefor Russia carries the burdens the responsibility.
No doubt those who sympathize with Russian leadership will point to encroachment of nato or fascist behavior of Jewish PM. Or historical rights of Russia.
To do that they must ignore the obvious wishes of the Ukrainian people as a whole (the majority).
And no it is not hard for me to believe this is so. We have seen the same desires play out in almost all the Slavic and Baltic nations. Even reaching to Georgia where they seek to join the EU and are already training with NATO forces.
You cannot disregard the overwhelming majority of these old Soviet territories seeking stronger relations with the EU and NATO as anomalies that aren’t really what they seem to be.
They are just what they seem to be a distrust and unwillingness to allow Russia to gain greater influence over them again.

Wow. Clear, calm, fair and even…..Am I in the right place? 🤣

He is a depressed Coke head. He is not in control of anything but his own mouth. When the head of the FSB makes a statement or Putin himself then people need to listen.
RM why do you say this? While I’m not fond of the fellow do you have some evidence he’s drug addled.
Just being allowed to make the statement is an indicator in its self.

I find the situation quite simple.

Party that commenced hostilities:
Russia

Party that can instantly end hostilities: Russia

But they won’t.
So let’s help the Ukraines kill them right back
I dont disagree with that. Frankly I dont disagree with most of the war crimes. But I simply cannot excuse forcing people to stay when they had a chance to evacuate so you could use them as human shields, knowing Russia would shoot them. The ONLY thing you get out of this is to say Russia killed civilians/commited a war crime, when by international law, it was not, they were a legitimate target. And the UA made them a legit target.

While this might be true in Mariupol I don’t see anything that it was (anything but true) Bucha. (Edit)

Like I said there could have been things done by Ukrainians in and around Mariupol. I’m not absolving individual units or commanders there. Allow the investigations to continue.

But what do you do about it in the middle of a war? And that you have strong indications both sides might be involved.
You can’t call a time out or throw a flag on the play.

So for me again the question comes back to if Ukrainian troops have perpetrated significant amounts of systemic violations.
If not then keep moving forward.

Reflecting upon this as a local fighter defending your own community or one identical to your own.
If having seen civilian homes or churches or schools bombed while civilians are known to be inside.

Well personally I do not know how I would react to foreign troops a party to that.
Or even more so to other locals who had collaborated with the invading army.
Issues like this used to be much more black and white. You burned them out or drove them from there homes at best, at worst you summarily executed them.
How do you judge people who have seen their communities razed and betrayed by neighbors to the point of death.
Seriously, think about it in this kind of existential situation.

Looks like sound military reactions on both sides.
What will be the next tactical change Russia uses and will it be successful.

Is the west already plotting this and reacting accordingly.

When will NATO respond with some form of offensive tactic that might bring this war to an end.
Or are we going to have to watch Russia grind on in Ukraine for years and eventually losing. As the US lost in Vietnam and Russia in Afghanistan.

Wars of attrition are never good for anyone in the short or long term.

Shock Russia with an overwhelming air war and missile defense system, end the blickaid in the Black Sea,
And roll armor and ground attack air into eastern Ukraine and end it.

Yeah I’m taking an aggressive policy.
Two reasons
Unnecessary death and suffering in Ukraine
Russia is going to have to be forced to withdraw and stop the war or they never will.
It is inevitable, short of Russia standing down early on with a effective defensive posture by Ukraine this was always heading there.
It is the humanitarian thing to do end the war now as soon as possible.
