Shipping through the Strait of Hormuz remained severely reduced Wednesday, with Kpler recording nine commodity vessel transits, unchanged from Tuesday. Traffic through Bab el Mandeb fell to 27 vessels from 32 the previous day.
Iran continued regional diplomatic contacts, with Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf meeting Iraq’s Supreme Judicial Council President Faiq Zidan in Baghdad, while Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi held talks with Pakistani Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir on regional developments and diplomatic efforts.
The UAE halted all trade, commercial exchanges and financial transactions with Iran until further notice following regional escalation and the UAE’s accusation that Iran launched two ballistic missiles toward Emirati waters. Iran denied launching the missiles.
Bulgarian Prime Minister Rumen Radev spoke with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte following reports that Iran had examined possible retaliation against U.S. facilities in southeastern Europe. Rutte confirmed that an attack on Bulgaria would be treated as an attack on NATO and that regional forces were prepared to respond. No new deployment or confirmed Iranian strike decision was announced.

The USS George Washington Carrier Strike Group has entered the CENTCOM theater and is operating in the Middle East after arriving on 19 August. It is relieving the USS Abraham Lincoln in a one for one carrier rotation, not an additional carrier deployment.
UKMTO confirmed that six armed people boarded an unidentified westbound tanker 136 nautical miles east of Al Mukalla, Yemen, took control of the vessel and redirected it toward Somalia. The tanker, cargo and crew status remain undisclosed.
Iranian crude availability to Chinese buyers has fallen sharply as the U.S. blockade constrains exports. Kpler estimates China has received around 534,000 bpd of Iranian crude so far in August, while Iranian floating storage has fallen from roughly 105 million to 80 million barrels. Some Iranian crude grades have also shifted from discounts to premiums amid tightening supply.
Only seven commodity vessels transited the Strait of Hormuz on Thursday according to Kpler data, with four entering and three exiting. No VLCCs or LNG carriers were recorded, although one VLGC carrying propane and butane exited through the Iranian route.
Bab el Mandeb recorded 23 commodity vessel transits Thursday.
