What does being subsonic have to do with the need to be forward deployed? The difference in top airspeed between the B-1 and the B-2 is not that great, and in any case the B-1 - despite its somewhat greater range - cannot make it from mainland US all the way to Iran and back without midair refueling (but then again, the B-2 is also capable of midair refueling). It’s just not “Six” ac. You are looking here while the bulk of the forces, by far, are *here*.
The Bones (a mnemonic B One) are supersonic and don’t need to be forward deployed.
Thinking logically, the B-2 seems to be the worst candidate for forward deployment, given the amount of maintenance it requires. And yet here we are.
