This is just distraction. Trump has no intentions of actually trying to make Canada the 51st State. If that ever happened, no Republican would ever get elected to Congress or the White House ever again because most Canadians fall much further left on the political spectrum than even your average American Democrat. The Canadian gov't is considering cancelling its $19 billion contract with Lockheed Martin to purchase F-35 fighters, and is looking at European alternatives amid fears that the US could disable or otherwise prevent the use of US technology by RCAF in the event of armed conflict.

Canada has 88 F-35s on order, and has already paid for 16 of them (these are expected to be delivered next year). The cancellation would affect the remaining 72 aircraft.

Portugal made a similar decision earlier this week.

For its part, LM issued a statement saying: "Lockheed Martin values our strong partnership and history with the Royal Canadian Air Force and looks forward to continuing that partnership into the future."

Excellent decision. Canada is reevaluating all its trade with the United States; they have become our enemies. Besides, the US has declared that it doesn't need us, so it should remain alone.

Of course, it's not written about electricity, crude oil refined in the USA, aluminum used in automobiles and other products, steel, and there's also uranium, which is used to power your nuclear power plants.
I also don't have any American products at home, except for citrus fruits (oranges, clementines, mandarins, etc.), but they are easily replaced by those from Morocco, Israel, Spain, Peru, etc.
There are products made by both countries, such as Gillette, Kraft, and several others.

We are not your enemy. Canada is being extremely stupid. European alternatives can’t beat the F-35. What are they gonna do, order Eurofighter Typhoons? Harriers? German Tornadoes? Give me a break.

A European fighter that works beats an American fighter that doesn't work. Besides, modern fighters are just glorified launch platforms for AAMs and AGMs - and European fighters fulfill that role perfectly well.

n fact, the real reason is that the USA can deactivate the F-35s, it is not a sale, it is a scam. It is normal that every country wants to keep its sovereignty, Portugal decided the same thing.

Funny thing is, Lockheed Martin actually relies on Canadian subcontractors to build the stupid jet - for example, Magellan Aerospace (based in Winnipeg) builds the horizontal tail assemblies - and there are other dependencies too.

As for governments being stupid - it took less than two months for the US government to make an enemy out of their closest ally. And for what? 🤪
 
First Lockheed had to FIND something for the Canadians to build. Need is the wrong word. Every country on the original buyers list gets to build something for everyone.

Canada can cut theirs silly order. We can use the airframes here. You are talking about 80 some at this point. We (the US) are buying thousands. Canada has an over valued sense of their impact upon the US.

If Canada wants to pass on the best (by a furlong) fighter and only stealth out there then go ahead and take their ball and go home. In fact if NATO gets in a war with China the Canadians exploding can be our fighters early warning system. Chinese stealth fighters will tear them apart.

Heck Israel with buy the production slots. They are asking for more now.

It will be fantastic. Good plan.

A non-emotional, level-headed assessment.

Yes. We do not need Canada. Canada needs the U.S. European jets just can’t beat a 5th generation American stealth aircraft.

I recall a little story about F-22’s sneaking up on some Iranian jets back in the day. F-35’s can do the same thing.

Canada without US military assistance is the next target for China.

You appear to believe that Canada will remain enemies with China even as the US turns against it.

What's gonna happen instead is that Canada will gladly invite Chinese troops and bases. You know, enemy of my enemy, and all that jazz... 💁‍♂️
