Nationwide protests in Iran have entered their eighth day, with demonstrations spreading to more than 220 locations across 26 provinces as anger grows over the country’s collapsing economy.

At least 20 people have been killed and nearly 1,000 arrested, as Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei warned that “rioters must be put in their place”, signaling a harsher crackdown.

At least 1,000 people have been arrested in connection with the ongoing protests in Iran, Norway-based human rights organization Hengaw reported on Monday citing documents and information it has obtained.

So far, Hengaw has verified the identities of 400 individuals. Of those whose identities have been confirmed, 41 are children and 33 are women.

At least 170 Kurdish citizens are also among the detainees whose identities have been verified, the report said.

IRAN | EXPLOSION REPORTED AT KALA COMPANY FACTORY

A strong explosion was reported at a factory belonging to Kala Company in Iran.

Kala Company is reported to have links to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and, during nationwide protests, allegedly used company vehicles to transport regime forces to suppress demonstrators opposing the Islamic Republic.

Iran’s protests are unlikely to topple the regime and an attack by Israel or US forces is unlikely​

At this point, it does not appear that the protests in Iran will bring down the regime. First, the clerical leadership has at least two layers of internal security: the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and, even more critically, the Basij militias, which operate under the IRGC and are the regime’s main instrument of repression. As seen in videos from the streets, Basij units suppress demonstrations efficiently from motorcycles, ATVs and armored vehicles

In Trump’s case, even if he is emboldened by his success in Venezuela, military action in the Middle East remains complicated. Iranian retaliation could target American troops in the region — in Iraq, at Al‑Asad Airbase, in Kurdish areas, or even at the major U.S. base in Qatar, Al‑Udeid. Tehran has already demonstrated its missile and launcher capabilities.
