Lets Talk Oil-(CLOSED)

As of early March 2026, Australia imports approximately
90% of its liquid fuel (petrol, diesel, and aviation fuel). While there is no definitive, publicly released number for the exact volume of oil not coming into the country, the system is facing significant strain due to the escalating conflict in the Middle East.
The Guardian +2
Key, up-to-the-minute data regarding the current oil supply situation in Australia:
  • Import Reliance: With only two domestic refineries operational (down from 12 in the past), Australia is highly dependent on imports from Singapore, South Korea, and Japan.
  • Impending Shortage Concerns: The conflict has raised fears of a "supply crisis" for specific sectors, with some regional distributors in Queensland reporting they were only receiving about 10% of their usual volume of fuel.
  • Strategic Reserve Shortfall: Australia has been non-compliant with International Energy Agency (IEA) requirements to hold 90 days of net imports since 2012.
  • Current Stockpile Levels: As of March 2026, the country holds an estimated 36 days of petrol, 34 days of diesel, and 32 days of jet fuel. Other reports indicate that actual, onshore, immediate-use stocks are lower, with some reports citing just 26 days of gasoline and 25 days of diesel.
  • Supply Security: Despite warnings, the Australian Energy Minister has indicated that supply contracts are in place, but that the country is not meeting its 90-day IEA obligation.
    The Guardian +6
Summary of risk: While fuel is still arriving, the combination of high reliance on international supply chains and the disruption in the Middle East has created a "vicious cycle" where panic buying is compounding fears of a shortage.

Good luck to the Aussies and Kiwis,
a world in crisis mode 3
No shit not only an issue due to bad government in australia but in reality still caused by bs by israel and US. NO ONE LEARNT ANYTHING FROM THE BS COVID SITUATION ON HOW THE GLOBAL COUNTRIES SHOULD HAVE LEARNT FROM CLAIMING TO BE A SOVEREIGN COUNTRY.
WHAT A JOKE AND A SICK ONE AT THAT. IS AMERICA A SOVEREIGN COUNTRY? WITH STABLE FUEL PRICES? A sovereign country should be able to claim independance on more than these basic unacceptable everyday living conditions.

Who’s profiting and what’s the long term play?
Russia considering returning to the dollar for international trading. So deals might be being made. But it seems it’s not so much for individual profit as strengthening the dollar.

Actually this is a years long problem that Australia has been dealing with. The international energy agency has advised Australia to maintain a 90 day strategic energy reserve for decades. But Australia has placed to much faith in the just in time delivery system, (globalist economy). So much so it negatively impacted its two refineries.
Seems the real concerns and issues need taken up with the Australian government for their lack of planning and preparation

Its always easier just to blame America for their own countries problems. I see some good examples here on this board regularly.

It’s oligarchs or the nation itself, it really doesn’t matter. It’s indicative that long term sanctions have worked.
The nation or Russia or those who hold the reins of power are tried of watching their gdp get tied up minimized and unduly spent on war. They want a new boat.

Nations need wealth and money people to invest and build things.
Some nations a wealthy people do a better job at it than others.
But those are not my monkeys or circus.

Oil WTI/Brent up thru 90$ , Gold Silver up but stable, Urals ( Russia) oil has maintain ed 84-86 on world markets,

Release of Emergency oil stock hasnt made a big impact on price, hopefully for nations like Aust/NewZealand, it may at least get help to the producers on the farms,
