May-2026 | DRC/Uganda New Ebola Strain Outbreak

I apologize for the delay as I have been under the weather. Here is the current situation as of 10 June 2026 at 23:30 UTC:
  • The Congolese Ministry of Health reports 147 new cases, for a total of 488 confirmed cases. There are 119 suspected cases and 127 confirmed deaths. There are also 30 suspected deaths. There are currently 260 patients in isolation. There are 9 recovered patients, with a contact follow-up rate of 56.3%.
  • The Ugandan Ministry of Health reports no new cases, leaving the total at 19 confirmed cases. There are 14 imported cases and 5 locally acquired cases. There are currently 2 confirmed deaths in Uganda. 12 patients remain in isolation, while 5 have recovered.
  • The Trump administration is asking European countries to impose travel restrictions on people who have recently been in Central African countries affected by the Ebola outbreak to prevent any potential spread of the disease during the World Cup, which will start tomorrow in the United States.
  • An unnamed European Commission official says “The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control currently assesses the risk to people in Europe as very low. At this stage, exit screening in the region is deemed sufficient; there is no evidence that additional measures are needed upon entry.”
  • Mapp Biopharmaceutical has officially shipped emergency doses of the experimental monoclonal antibody therapy MBP134 to Central Africa. It is being cleared for compassionate use in high-risk individuals and exposed personnel.
My next update will be on 13 June 2026 or sooner as the situation warrants.

That delay......Absolutely no problem.
Not taking care of yourself......big problem.
Please take care!
Thank you for all your time and effort.

You're very welcome. I know that this is a fluid situation in Central and Eastern Africa, and I'm sure that there might be some members and guests who are in the affected area. What really concerns me is that Congolese officials are struggling to meet the critical target of 70% contact tracing. According to CDC models, if the 70% target is not met, chances are very low that this outbreak will remain below 10,000 cases. This will quite possibly end up rivaling the 2013-2016 West Africa epidemic if stronger measures are not implemented quickly.
