South Korea and Japan will resume joint maritime search and rescue exercises on June 7, the first such SAREX drill in about nine years, according to Yonhap. The drill is set for international waters southeast of Jeju and will involve South Korea’s ROKS Cheon Ja Bong, Japan’s Kongo Aegis destroyer, and a Japanese maritime patrol helicopter.

Japan’s Joint Staff released today that it has continued to confirm multiple Chinese naval vessels, including the aircraft carrier Liaoning, operating in the Pacific Ocean since May 26th.

On May 29th, Japan confirmed the Liaoning group moving southeast in Pacific waters east of the Philippines.

Japan also says approximately 170 carrier based aircraft takeoff and landing events were confirmed from the Liaoning between May 26th and May 28th.
