Lithuania is tightening force generation and defending the infrastructure needed to sustain it. MoD says the updated compulsory initial service system includes calling youth right after school (18 to 22) and a 3 month service track for “shortage” military relevant professions, callable up to age 31.

In parallel, MoD is publicly pre bunking pushback on expanded training areas, arguing ranges can be compatible with environmental protection under EU and Lithuanian rules.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, French President Emmanuel Macron, and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer signed a declaration of intent on Tuesday for the deployment of multinational forces to support Kyiv’s defence and reconstruction – if a ceasefire with Russia is agreed on.

There was no immediate response from Russia, however. President Vladimir Putin has ruled out any deployment of troops from NATO countries on Ukrainian soil.

The UK and France will “establish military hubs across Ukraine and build protected facilities for weapons and military equipment to support Ukraine’s defensive needs” – in the event of a peace deal with Russia, he added.

Starmer said peace in Ukraine ⁠is closer than ever though the “hardest yards” still ‍lay ahead.

Finland says it is preparing to participate in Norway led Cold Response 2026 in March across northern Norway, Finland, and Sweden. Finland will bring Army and Air Force units and equipment. The exercise focuses on reinforcing defence capability and logistics in Arctic conditions, and includes receiving allied forces and starting up activities in Finland.

Ukraine’s General Staff claims the “Oskolneftesnab” oil depot near Kotel in Russia’s Belgorod region was hit, triggering a large fire, and also hit an MTO logistics depot tied to Russia’s 20th Motor Rifle Division in Donetsk.

Denmark’s Defence Acquisition and Logistics Organisation says it has integrated the SPIKE LR2 anti tank missile onto the Eagle 5 via the Kongsberg PROTECTOR RS4 remote weapon station, and the first live fire test scored a direct hit. Czech PM Andrej Babis and Slovak PM Robert Fico say Prague and Bratislava will restart intergovernmental consultations, with the next joint cabinet session targeted for 31 March in Czechia.

Babis offered help securing Slovak gas supplies as the EU moves to phase out Russian gas imports. Fico said Czechia will be a key transit route for gas deliveries to Slovakia.
