They have to open enlistments to 40 or 60 year olds, whichever, in and of itself proves they do not have the soldiers available to prosecute even a special military whatever. They do not even have sufficient numbers of solders to subdue such a small colonial territory the won’t come to heal.
A. They really sucked in the planning of this special military whatever.

It is also a Really lame excuse to claim they are needed to secure rear areas.
A. The breakaway regions aren’t nearly enthralled with Russian occupation.
or B. It’s not a partial mobilization as you call it. If they have to raise the reenlistment age is because the younger men in Russia won’t allow themselves to be used as cannon fodder for a war that they do not support.
Maybe the the support for this invasion isn’t quite what Russian officials and apologist would like up to believe.

maybe. or maybe not. Actually, it is hardly to say something sure and we can make only guesses. Russia, as how I supposed, is breaking through the front of Donbass: this, and massive disertions into the Ukrainian ranks, are the only sure things.
Generally, a mobilization doesn't start with the 18 years-old. So, "before" to enlist reservists in a hypothetical partial mobilization, why not allow to join the Army who want to, first? Russia, as I already written in other messages, IMHO is not going to subdue a small territory, but it is going to take all the Ukraine.
So, IMHO, this law is a kind of hidden mobilization. We will see.

Medvedev has said far more than this

sure? I have lost something? Medvedev has said a lot of hard words, it's true. But nothing like that. I'm not argiung that it is true that Russia will strike US cities if NATO gives some kind of weapons to Ukraine: I don't think so. But IMHO is something further than the initian words said by Putin of the "particular readiness of nuclear forces". It's a very hostile message from a very important person of Russian gouvernement. When Medvedev would have said more than that?

It's a threat to other countries to not get involved. Russia's been making these threats since the beginning.

ok, I agree, but nonetheless it is a big threat. Maybe I lost something, but I don't remember that a Medvedev has said something like that in a so clear way. Furthermore, Russia seems to be consequential. It is not something said by a general in retire, or from someone who is supposed to be a kind of representation of Cremline position: it is a formal message said by an high member of the gouvernement. I don't know what is the real meaning of these words, but these words are not unofficial, they are a statement. Maybe you are right that the meaning is that other Countries have to not get involved. Maybe the message is not for US. Good for you... maybe a little less for us.

Okay, having finally caught up on this thread after this annoying thing called "life" distracted me for a few days, let me say this:

"Discussion," as it relates to threads like this, means analysis of posted reports, not social commentary. It also means civil discourse between people who disagree with each other.

Also, please be clear on whether your post is based on verifiable facts or is personal opinion.

Keep it on topic and civilized.

If you have a problem with a post or comment that you think needs addressed, use the "report"
I have a very light hand in policing people I feel should be noted and only pursue clear cut violations.

BEFORE REPORTING a post please look over the board guidelines to see if the post in question has violated any rules:

They're struggling to hold onto what they originally had and you think they're taking all of Ukraine? Right now they have taking a meters of land by just throwing bodies at it. Their strategy just seems to run Ukraine out of ammo by killing all of their soldiers. That can't last indefinitely. And this isn't bringing up the economic issues Russia is going to face before the end of the year.

Full mobilization isn't likely to happen anyways. That would require drafting from the big cities of Moscow and St. Petersburg and would not do Putler any favors. They are trying to take the poor people that are Asiatic or Tartar. See this link.
And even if they did mobilize, that just adds more moving parts to what already has been a terribly planned assault. You're just asking for more confusion and dead Russians.

In case you missed it, Ukraine is currently being invaded and annexed. By Poland. At least according to Patrushev (who is probably the #2 guy in Russia right now, and suspected to have cooked up the Special Military Operation).

Fake news & terrible propaganda. Russia has been pushing and pedaling that false claim for awhile now. Poland is not invading Ukriane nor will it.

Well duh! The pertinent question is not whether this is true or not (I mean, come on...), but why they're spinning this tale (sorry for commenting in reports thread; feel free to move this post elsewhere).

How about putting that in English. It would be appreciated.
Poland began to move on to seizing territories in western Ukraine. This opinion was expressed by the Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Nikolai Patrushev. (...) “A vivid confirmation of this was the visit to Kyiv of the Polish President [Andrzej] Duda, as well as his statements that the Polish-Ukrainian border would soon cease to exist. Apparently, Poland is already moving to actions to seize the western Ukrainian territories, ” - RIA Novosti quoted Nikolay Patrushev as saying.

Yes but it's a load of garbage. They won't attack Poland so not like they are laying the ground work for it. Just a distraction/misinformation campaign imo as they been crying this for a month.

No need. It's not the first time it's been posted. Russia has been for past month pushing a false claim Poland is about to or is invading Poland which is false. Removed link and moved convo to discussions.
There is a certain dynamic to the process, however, which may elude the casual observer. Over the past month they've progressed from "they want to do it" to "they are planning to do it" and now to "they are doing it". Again, the primary question is "why?" In my view, there are three possible answers, sorted from least to most likely:
  • A veiled suggestion to make a deal. Highly unlikely. Russia regards Poland as an obstacle to be removed, excuse me, "denazified", rather than a partner in any geopolitical deals.
  • Attempt to sow discord between Poles and Ukrainians. Also unlikely. Russia has zero credibility in both countries.
  • Conjuring a potential excuse for military action against Poland. Possible, as it fits the Russian playbook. Remember Putin's warnings, and also the original justification for the war (i.e. "Ukraine was preparing to invade the Donbas!")
In any case, I believe this is something that should be closely monitored.
