Also, a residential building caught fire as a result of an attack by Ukrainian drones in Russia’s Rostov region. This, after Russia pelted Kharkiv, “…hit by dozens of Shahed drones. 💥 ✈️ By morning, additional details had surfaced from Russian sources. It now appears that a Russian military jet—rather than a helicopter—was downed by an unmanned vessel approximately 50 kilometers off the coast in the Black Sea.If confirmed, this would mark the first instance in recorded history of a military aircraft being brought down by an unmanned maritime platform.

Officials are modelling scenarios involving conventional missile strikes, hypersonic weapons, nuclear warheads, and cyber attacks targeting vital infrastructure like gas terminals, nuclear power stations, transport hubs, and undersea internet cables.

A recent risk assessment warned a successful attack could lead to civilian deaths, massive economic damage, and disruption of essential services. Defence officials are calling for a UK version of Israel’s Iron Dome to defend against incoming missiles.

Cyber warfare is a major new focus. State-backed hackers from Russia are seen as capable of crippling power grids, government systems, and public services. MI5 says state-level threats have surged by 48% in the past year.
