As the sec Gen of nato which is a treatied org he would be in communication with the various member nations leadership.
They will have and do discuss public statement topics.

Part of the Historic and designed purposes of NATO IS that the US extends our nuclear umbrella over nato members if attacked.
It is part of his job to reflect the opinions and policies of member states wishes.
This is precedent and congressionally voted on legal treaty.
If Russia were to strike a nato member there would be NO vote regarding how we respond. The leaders of the nations would make that call as part of their duties.

If you want to see it changed then it must be changed by removing us from nato.
You might not agree or like it.
I suggests a separate topic on should the US remain in nato.

diplomats politicians and military leadership have spoken on this issue many many times. There is nothing unprecedented about it.

It is part of the diplomatic and military and political agreements amongst nato members.
So if you are opposed to that maybe a thread on should US remains in NATO.

Regarding how nato would respond if Ukraine was nuked it would have to be discussed. As I’ve said before I don’t believe a response would be necessary if Russia did act. Let Ukraine fight the war conventionally while haveing the votes in the various nato nations capitals for future response if it happens again.

Really? Have you actually seen how other nations conduct themselves politically? American politics even with Trump or far left liberals is considerably boring compared to pretty much anyone else.

I mean have you seen videos of Indian parliament quite literally breaking out in all out brawls where lawmakers hurl chairs at each other and whip other lawmakers with whatever is closest like a soccer game gone terribly wrong???🤣🤣🤣 Even the UK parliament can be more of a circus then Congress!

Trust me compared to rest of world our government/Congress is really boring.

Just YouTube UK parliament debate and there all a circus usually with everyone yelling in background.

Trust me American politics is the most boring in entire world.
 
Not sure about the overall risk of a nuclear war (in Ukraine, because imho NATO-RUS is non existing)…but the nuclear saber rattling has decreased a lot in the last days.
Signs that there’s some diplomacy in motion in the background.
Also Borrell making treats of retaliation should relax us all since in fact…no one gives a shit about what he normally says…even less when he talks about defense … just his personal opinion in the moment that the organ he represents doesn’t even have a common defense policy :ROFLMAO:

The risk is not zero, but it’s not even high.
If people wanna live in constant fear, as those who compare GROM/NATO drills with the 1983 events…well everyone is free to live as preferred.

“Nearly no one” in Europe (where I live and work traveling around) supports anymore the western effort.
The economy is collapsing, people are losing their jobs. And it’s just the beginning of the crisis.
Not to mention those who would be willing to go and fight against Russians in the eventuality of a spillover.
Many people here live in the US…you guys have no idea about how hard the crisis is hitting hard.
Unfortunately of course.

No, it does not. I had a similar question related to Ukraine's evacuations early the war. Per the book, the evacuation would be between the nuclear powers. I would broaden that, but still would suggest it should be thought of in terms of the belligerents.
Third parties asking their citizens to get out is not strongly relevant to escalation ladder.

If Belarus orders a mass evacuation of Belarussians, then perhaps can revisit.

Edit to add: Number 17 is also 20% of population. . . . There is no way that threshold is getting hit by Chinese and Kazak warnings.
