Technically I believe they were in international waters. Not that it matters. They could send many naval ships for exercise off our coast for exercise in international waters and their weapons could strike us before anyone noticed launch of missiles. Hit Canberra and watch how quickly we surrender.
Should we try defence our capacity and capabilities would be defeated in approximately 2 weeks.

What port exactly? No mention of a port in the article.
I was looking at this the other day. While China does have permission for Chinese Naval vessels to visit several nations in the South China Sea. They do not have established and even semi permanent ports south of well, China.

China is very much playing all the cards they have except nuclear threats to spread their military presence in thr SCS and beyond.
But like their air force they don’t have the logistics to make meaningful military demands much beyond range of a small fraction of the F/A or bombers.
In 2022 China had 2! 2023 -4, 2024 -8.
In contrast Australia has 7- Kc-30’s
So yeah they are definitely chasing that ball.
But is China their to dominate the lower SCS, not yet.

I do not see the problem. FoNEx.

My take away is these are fairly advanced ships, some making independent cruise. They are not breaking done and waiting to be tugged back to port AND the are conducting limited underway replenishment.

In short they are beginning to project the power of a regional power soon to be a superpower and project force anywhere in the world, in two separate locations simultaneously.

They are shadowing what the USA did to the UK throughout the 19th century. The US eclipsed the British when it was obvious they could no longer afford superpower forces with the loss of their empire.

<stamping foot> THIS WILL BE ON THE TEST:

The world should note two things 1) The US is abandoning Antonine’s Wall. You best have a plan for the Celts. 2) We are not coming back, China is.

Wow. Most have been a one off from Java and the German Indian Ocean fleet. I had no idea they went that far.
