Honestly, 9/11 is why I view even a
small microscopic chance of nuclear terrorism as COMPLETELY unacceptable.
Even a 1% chance over the next hundred years that such a threat could persist because the Iranian regime is left intact is, to me, intolerable. Before this war or after it, that remains my position.

That is also why this sits awkwardly with me on a moral and philosophical level. I do not support Trump, and I do not like Trump, but I do support this war. In my view, this confrontation has been a long time coming for anyone who has paid serious attention to the trajectory since the 1970s.
It is unfortunate that this war is unfolding under this administration. At the same time, I can also admit that a war of this kind likely would not have been pursued under a different one.

That is the contradiction I keep coming back to....... I am a left leaning independent who strongly opposes Trump, yet I still support this war because I see nuclear terrorism as an unacceptable risk.

After 9/11, I lost any ability to dismiss the possibility that, given the chance, terrorists will use whatever means they can against us.
