UA-RU-NATO War & Ukraine Peace Talks | Discussions

There is an air of ominousness hanging over these talks. Too many contradictions; too many conflicting interests. Putin might bite for tactical reasons, but pretty much every intelligence service in the West is in agreement that his goals (which include complete subjugation of Ukraine) have not budged.

Even if a short-term ceasefire materializes, I see nothing but war in the future.

Russia loses 1,300 soldiers over past day

IVAN DIAKONOV — TUESDAY, 11 MARCH 2025, 07:04

It is important to understand that the Russian government treats soldiers the same way as artillery shells. They think in terms of: "How much do we produce? How much is consumed? Is the consumption rate sustainable? Can we harvest some from the captured territories?"

To a Westerner this may seem horrific, but that's just another blind spot.

At present, Russian recruitment numbers are sufficient to cover their losses.

Ukraine war latest: US ramps up pressure on Putin to accept ceasefire - and reveals territorial concessions discussed with Ukraine

Trump's top diplomat Marco Rubio has urged Vladimir Putin to agree to a 30-day ceasefire - after the Kremlin said it was studying the proposal but would not agree to anything until it had heard from the US.

On these forums it was all point and laugh at the ridiculousness of Russia using nukes, flips to a Trump presidency where he's using Russia's nukes as a way to justify and propagandize the process of abandoning Ukraine, and it's all we need to take it seriously now. Russia has exactly as much incentive to use or not to use nukes as they did 3 months ago, they're still winning and it would still be insane to shoot themselves in both feet and turn this into a global conflict. Realistically, either position is fine to take, but some consistency in what the position is based on would be good.
This part all day.

The people suddenly crying Putin threats are not empty are the same people who where laughing at Putin making threats over Ukraine and saying we only need worry when Putin stops making threats just a year ago. Can name quite a few people just in this thread.

But that somehow magically changed over night. Mmmhmmm. No. Very transparent of many.

Staff Edit: Tone it down, guys.

Can you tell me one of over a dozen ridiculous red lines over Ukraine Putin has threatened to use nukes that he has after the west has crossed each an every one of em, where has he used em? Empty.
As I have said in the past, Crimea (especially the port) is a true nuclear red line.

Which hasn't and won't be crossed and doesn't need to for a Ukraine win or a fair Ukrainian peace deal. Jeeze.

Crimea was lost in 2014 and imo was really the only true goal of Putin in Ukraine, his land bridge is just the cherry ontop that Putins "yes men" ignorantly told him he could win in three days. LOL

Crimea has been fortified and entrenched for over 10 years by Russia. It's gone gone and no one with any real say is claiming on taking it back, at least no one with authority is materializing it.

So, it's a non issue. Even if Ukraine wanted to, they cannot. Even if western aid was in full swing not possible. After 10 years Russians are just to far entrenched in Crimea for Ukraine to ever get it back. Why they have not and will not make a acutual move on Crimea beyond random drone/boat strikes.

Yes, Russia has red lines (though they're not where they say they are), and no, nuclear fears should not overtly drive political calculus. Once you admit you're frightened by their nukes - you've effectively lost the game.

In general, the whole concept of red lines is regarded as a Bad Idea in nuclear deterrence circles. It's pretty much universally believed that strategic ambiguity works much better (though admittedly makes for less flashy headlines). Hand your enemy a piece of sandpaper and watch as they vigorously massage their own undercarriage. 💁‍♂️

Note not personally attacking anyone. Just pointing out the inconsistency in somes beliefs over Putins threats and how ludicrous I find it on how quick their sentiment changed...

Just find it quite strange a lot of people went from laughing at Putin threats saying we only need worry only when Putin stops threatening to use nukes... to, omg his threats are real we need to do everything to end the war before he uses them.... Just having hard time grasping it I guess...
